#9 Fourth Competition for Teacher Generated Materials / Professions / Grade 3

Overall Objective: Students will be able to use different reading skills and vocabulary connected to the professions.

Language Objective: Students will be able to do several activities of pre-reading, while reading and post-reading stages.

Civic Education Objective: Students will use vocabulary of different profession about themselves.

Curriculum Connection: English Curriculum Grade III

Class Context and Needs: Elementary Classroom

Materials: poster, marker, slips of papers, handouts of the text, pens.

Activities: gaming, working in a groups, finding pairs and matching, individual work.

Assessment: Naming professions about themselves.

Ss receive three different words (sing, dance, play), they sit in the circle, one of them is out who says one of this words. They change their sits quickly, so that one person who is out could sit. A person who stayed without a chair is going to say a word.

Activity 1

T shows ss a poster where is written one example (teacher is a person, who teaches some subject) and the words: sing, dance, write, paint, play, work, build, teach, garden, farm. They practice and name professions.

Activity 2

T gives ss slips of papers, they should read and find a pair to make sentences (for example: Singer is a person,
                      who sings well.

Activity 3

Ss receive handouts of the text (into two groups), they should find and underline names of professions and after share with each other.

Assessment
T (after giving an example) ask students make notes and/or say what profession they want to have in the future, for example: I am Luka and I want to be a painter.
