#20 Third Competition for Teacher Generated Materials / New Year / Grade 3

Overall Objective: Students will be able to use new vocabulary, write sentences, will review adjectives, colors.

Language Objective: Students will use nouns (Snow-flake, fir-tree, New Year Tree, Santa Claus, present, house, tree, snow, toy, bag) and adjectives (big, small, happy, white, red, green)  to explain things and describe them.

Civic Education Objective: Students will draw New Year symbols.

Curriculum Connection: English Curriculum Grade III

Class Context and Needs: Elementary Classroom

Materials: Paintings, papers with words and images in it, crayons, papers

Activities: matching, individual work, working in groups, sharing

Assessment: drawing and write sentences with nouns and adjectives then sharing.

Teacher shows students picture of New-Year’s tree and asks questions about new year.

Activity 1

Teacher sticks several new word’s pictures on the board, writes the suitable words and they say together. Then with more pictures they talk about another New-Year symbol words.

Activity 2

The students individually match the sentences with a suitable image.

Activity 3

Teacher divides groups giving three different words written on a different colored paper, give them pictures (each picture contains three correct words) and words. They should find the words painted in the picture. Then share.

Activity 4

Teacher makes two groups, sticks pictures on the board and the students should write words from the pictures. The group, which will have more words, receives different prize.

Assessment
The students are able to choose one New-Year symbol to paint and they should write sentences on the picture “He is Santa Claus”, “He is happy”. Then share (stick on the board and check, read)
