letters and tells the Ss to reorder the letters and guess what is written
there. After Ss manage doing it, T introduce them the topic of the lesson.

Activity 1

Ss work in pairs.
T writes on the board the phrases (I think this symbol goes here. We must put it here. Let’s put it
here. I think it’s an American/Georgian symbol. No, I don’t think so. I
agree. I disagree.) that Ss must use while accomplishing the following task.
T gives each pair 12 pictures of national symbols and they
have to group them under two titles: Georgian and American national symbols.( handout
1-pictures)
While Ss are working T divides the board into two halves and
titles them.(Georgian National
Symbols; American National Symbols)
T monitors the Ss. After pair-work Ss do the same activity on
the board. They stick previously printed larger pictures of the national
symbols on the suitable place.

Activity 2
|
T sticks pieces of
paper, with the names of each national symbol, on the board. Ss work in pairs
again. They have to decide what is the name of each symbol.
After pair-work ,T randomly asks students to fulfill the same
activity on the board.
T points to each national symbol and asks Ss to translate the
names of the symbols into Georgian.

Activity 3
|
T gives each pair a handout containing 12 brief informational
texts about the National symbols. Each pair must read and translate only one text into Georgian for the whole
class.( T previously tells each pair which text they are going to read)
(Ss can use dictionaries.
T writes some key words with Georgian translations on the
board.)

Activity 4
|
T tells the Ss that they are going to do a visual leaflet
(brochure) of National Symbols of two countries. T gives them all the
necessary materials and demonstrates the previously prepared template. Ss
individually fulfill this task.( They have to cut, stick and write the names
of the National symbols)

T gives each student a
handout of 12 comprehension questions about the national symbols of the USA
and Georgia. They have to do it as homework for the next class.

(Tavisupleba) is the national anthem of Georgia. The anthem was adopted in
2004.
2. Coat of arms of Georgia was adopted on 1 October 2004.
There is an image of Saint George,
riding a horse. There are two lions holding the shield and at the top you can see the

It is a figure of a woman in Georgian
national dress. Its height is 22 m. and it is made of aluminum. She symbolizes
the Georgian national character: in her left hand she holds a bowl of wine to
greet those who come as friends and in her right hand is a sword for those who
come as enemies
5. Seal of Tbilisi. The emblem
of the City of Tbilisi, was designed in the late 1980s and now is an
official seal of the city from June 8, 2005.

Orthodox Church and dates from the 4th century AD, when Christianity became the official religion in the kingdom
of Iberia (Kartli).
