#4: Competition for Teacher Generated Materials: Voting / Grade 2

Overall Objective: Students will develop awareness of voting and conduct a class vote.
Language Objective: Students will learn and use basic vocabulary about voting and revise the                                                names of fruit.
Civic Education Objective: Students will participate in a class vote.
Curriculum Connection: Elementary Grades1-2,Objective 4.
Class context and needs:  Elementary Students.
Sequencing: Students have basic words in English.
Materials: Handouts,cards,Voting Booth,Ballot Box…

What are students’ favourite fruit? Give students few minutes to talk to a partner. Teacher observs.

Activity1
Students will match fruits with their meanings on the(handout1)which is on the wall. Then they practice pronunciation.

Activity2
Explain students stages of the voting using (handout2), which contains the photos of the procedures and their meaning.

Activity3                 
Choose 2 observers for voting using the cards with students’ names on them. And give them instructions and ballots.

Activity4
Voting(Hand out the ballots and ask students to complete their ballot,then wait in line to enter the voting booth to put their ballots in the ballot box.

Counting(They should count ballots together and announce the results.)

Ask students how many voted for the winning.
