#13 Fourth Competition for Teacher Generated Materials / The critical literacy ( The Giving Tree). / Grade 10

Overall  objective:  SWBAT   speak first of all  about  the  boy  and  the  tree according  to  their  meanings, then  to  describe  the  tree and  the  boy  in  a  way  that  is  different  from  their  normal  use.
Language  objectiveSWBAT  use  adjectives  connected  with  metaphors. Learn  the  new  words     trunk, stump, shade, hide-and-seek, branches.

Civic objective: SWBAT discuss the  behavior  of  the  characters, to practice  the  metaphorically  speaking  ,  of  course.

MATERIALS: board,  marker, papers, pens, handout, chalk.

Activities warm-up reflection,  asking and answering questions,  listening, role-play,  sharing.


Assessment Ask students  to tell  the  importance  of  the  tree. There are  trees  that  have  leaves,  and  are  trees  that  have  needles.  Help if  there is need.

T.  distributes  the  text ( the  giving  tree)  to  S-s  and  ask  them  to  read   loudly  to understand  the  meaning   of  the  text.

After  reading T.  asks  questions  about  the  text  and  encourages  S-s  to  discuss.
1.  Who  does  the  boy  represent?
2.How  old  do  you  think the  boy is?
3.Is the  tree  a  man  or a  woman?
4. Who does  the  tree  represent? Tree gives  everything and continuous to give to  the boy throughout  their journey  of life ,  in spite of  receiving  nothing  in  return.  One should  be  thankful.
Role—play. S-s start  to  act  in  front  of  the  class, players  pretend  to  be  imaginary  characters  who  take  part  in  situations  from  the  literature.
At the  end  T.  and  s-s  together  plant  a  tree  in  the  garden  of  the  school as  a  symbol  of  a  new  life. They plant 2 fir-trees and 2  plum trees.

Students  answer T.  questions   Have  you ever  met  a  tree?
Trees are not just  pretty, they  are  important  to  us  for  many  reasons,  some provide fruit and nuts  for food, some  provide  wood to  use  to  build  things,  and  all  trees  important  because   they  produce  oxygen  for  us  to  breathe.
