#23 Third Competition for Teacher Generated Materials / Symbols / Grade 5


Overall Objective: By the end of the lesson students will perform the understanding of symbols and will be able to speak about their favourite weather using different adjectives and phrases. They will develop their speaking skills.

Language Objective: Students will use vocabulary such as weather, windy, sunny, cloudy, rainy. They will use the phrases: what is the weather like? How’s weather today? etc.

Civic Education Objective: Students will identify the weather symbols, they will match them with the correct picture and then will speak about their favourite season using weather symbols.

Curriculum Connection: Grade V: V-14 A student can role-play simple dialogues, V-15 A student can participate in a simple interaction, V-16 A student can speak about familiar topics, V-22 A student is willingly involved in different activities.


Class Context and Needs: There are 30 students in the class, they are basic level learners. There are no students of special needs.

Materials: PPT, pictures, handouts, board, laptop, pens, pencils.

Activities: Warm up, matching, pair work, group work, asking and answering questions. 

Assessment: Students speak about their favourite season using weather symbols.

Weather symbols

Teacher shows weather symbols on the PPT, students identify them in the pictures displayed on the board. They answer to the teacher’s questions.

Activity 2
Matching
Students work in pairs and match the pictures with the sentences. (handout 1)
Students practise new vocabulary by using them in short texts. (handout 2)

12 min.
Activity 3
Role play
Students role play a short dialogue according to the prompts. (handout 3)
Students read the texts and match them with the people. They write seasons in the gaps. (handout 4)

Activity 4
Assessment

Students speak about their favourite season  using weather symbols.
