Active Citizens in Samegrelo

When the village of Oktomberi (Samegrelo) teacher Irma Qiria asked her students to be active citizens and write a letter to the local government explaining the condition of their school, the need for assistance and the potential benefit to the community - the students took action. They compiled together a letter on their own which was later edited by their teacher, and again re-written by students. The students took photographs and attached them with as many signatures of students from their village as they could add to the petition. It is an example of active citizenry - students organizing and submitting their combined effort with the goal of making a change in their community. Thus far, there have been much appreciated donors from Norway, U.S. and the local government.
